This is FrogPick's
home for the Best Regency Romance. Regency Romance had its
historical beginnings with Fanney Burney's Evelina: Or, The History of a
Young Lady's Entrance into the World (1778). While before the Regency
Period proper (1811-1821) it set the tone for the novel of manners, most
notably Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
In the 1920's and 1930's
Georgette Heyer
relaunched the genre and continued to write until the early 70's. Her novels
are sporadically in print and avidly sought.
Contemporary practitioners include
Mary Balogh,
Jo Beverley,
Loretta Chase,
Candice Hern, Carla Kelly,
Stephanie Laurens,
Cathy Maxwell, Barbara Metzger,
Mary Jo Putney and many others.
