FrogPick's
goal of helping you find the best books is easier said than done. What
is the best? Ultimately, the best book is a term that only has
meaning in relationship to a particular reader. The best book
for a particular reader (for instance you) is the book that
will bring you the most joy and personal enrichment, while stimulating
you to look further and continue to grow through your reading life.
In addition a reader's mood and
interests at a particular point in time change what is best for that
reader. Sometimes I want to read serious poetry.
Other times I may want a fantasy, a good
mystery or a
science fiction classic. The best book for you is what suits your
mood, be that a literary novel,
romance, drama or
non-fiction.
The usual recommendation list consists
of mostly very difficult intellectual novels by predominately male
novelists. If you are in a particularly studious mood that's great and
we offer our gender neutral version in the FrogPicks 500 list. If you prefer genre fiction, or best sellers we
offer tools to help you find what you want.
One way to find good books is to look
at book awards and prizes.
These cover every genre and give you a sense of what the critics,
writers and other readers view as the best.
